Is Zithromax Erythromycin in Questions
What is the difference between Azithromycin (zithromax) antibiotic and Erythromycin? Is one better ? My son in law has a lump on his throat and doctor prescribed Erythroymicin and it is not helping.

Kristin C replied: "Both are broad spectrum antibiotics. One is not necessarily better, just different. It is possible that whatever you s-i-l has may be resistant to the erythromycin. Although, it could very well be viral, in which case it won't respond to ANY antibiotic. How long has he been on the erythromycin? Give it at least 5 days - if no better or getting worse, go back to the doctor."

hiten_lakra replied: "They both have kind of same chemical structure but azithromycine has less side effects unlike erythromycin."

prpipes1 replied: "I can say thaThat my oldest son used to get ear infections all the time and the Doc would prescribe erythromycine and then it would go away. A few weeks later it would be back. After a while of this the Doctor prescribed Zithromax and now it has been 4 years and no more ear infections. Bacteria are getting more resistant to traditional meds so if prescribed any medication Take until gone do not stop taking when you no longer feel bad."

Trina S replied: "Zitromax is a stonger version antibiotic. Erythroymicin never seemed to work on me or my hubby. (My kids never took it) The stronger ones seemed to kick it faster. My two kids just got over strep throat and one was prescribed Azithromycin, and the other Omnicef. My daughter got Zithromax and the doc said it was stronger and would kick it faster. My son is currently still on Omnicef and that seems to work good too. Just talk to your doctor if he isn't getting better. Good Luck!!"

Do you have to abstain from masturbating as well, when taking antibiotics to treat an STD infection? Doctors treat chlamydia with prescription antibiotics such as azithromycin (Zithromax), doxycycline or erythromycin. Your doctor usually prescribes these antibiotics as pills to be swallowed. You may be asked to take your medication in a one-time dose, or you may receive a prescription medication to be taken daily or multiple times a day for five to 10 days. In most cases, the infection resolves within one to two weeks. During that time you should abstain from sex.

stdpal.com replied: "Yes, it is possiable. You can check more information about it on a STD dating site:. Many people here can manage it now"

dr.grays replied: "your a sick sick person but no you dont have to only from sex and you shouldnt have sex again think about your sex partner(s) for a change"

Min replied: "No, I think you can masturbate just fine. I'm pretty sure they have abstain from sex because to make sure the drug works and you don't re-catch it. I'm not sure, but that's what I think."

Shana B replied: "You abstain from sex to avoid passing along the infection, but masturbating is fine! That's actually the safest sex you'll ever have :)"

Janegal replied: "Shana B is right. Abstinence is so you don't pass along the std to others. 'Do-it-yourself' sex is safe and should not cause you any problems with your treatment. Be sure to take all of your medication and keep to yourself until well after you are sure you are cured. No point in passing it along and/or starting all over."

Nurse Angie R.N. replied: "The reason why you are supposed to abstain from SEX is so that you do not pass your infection onto another sex partner. Until the antibiotics are finished, you are not considered "cured" of the infection. Also very important to take the antibiotic at the same time, and complete all of the medication... otherwise you can cause the infection to come back and will be more difficult to treat it. As for masturbation, thats fine as long as you don't accidentally shoot it in your eye... otherwise you'll get a bad infection there too."
